I (used to) work for a major fast food chain that encouraged its customers to ‘Think outside the bun.’ Anyway, my very first day there they put me on the front register during lunch rush when people would come in making giving huge orders with certain food items left out or extra this or that. I had absolutely no idea how to use the register and they said if I had any questions to ask someone. Well, of course, I had a million and one questions because I didn’t know how the register worked. I had no clue how to take items off or add extra things or do discounts or anything. And everybody I asked to help gave me an exasperated look as if I should know what I was doing. And since it was lunch rush, they were all busy.
Needless to say, I messed up many orders and customers were complaining. The other workers kept giving me dirty looks and talking about me as if I were stupid. I’m not stupid, I just wasn’t trained. I told the customers and for once they were much more understanding than my own managers. I only lasted 5 days at that job.
